Here's my foobar player screen dump. Pretty basic but it works for me. I'd be interest in seeing what other players look like in action or other Foobar configurations.
Give me rhythm or give me death!

Hi,
I could have done a screenshot, but why not this? This is my Screen-"Dump".
55" budget priced 720p Plasma Screen.
Music Player is Media Portal with Pure-Audio/ASIO-Music-Player. On that big blac box. Media PC with 10T on Line Disk and a "pentium" Dual core Intel CPU, SSD for system.
Rest is a production level prototype of the latest stuff cooking. Nice sound. Dub Ears Good.

At 20 bits, you are on the verge of dynamic range covering fly-farts-at-20-feet to untolerable pain. Really, what more could we need?
Very nice setup. Clean lines and uncluttered. What is that directly to the left of the blackbox PC? Is it a vintage integrated amp?
The IFI Retro... :)
Ah, a retro concept product. Sort of like reborn retro muscle cars in concept form at auto shows. ;-)
Hi Abe,
> Sort of like reborn retro muscle cars in concept form at auto shows.
Kind of. Probably more like the new Mini and the new Beetle instead of true Retro.
It does come with a DAC build that can handle DSD up to DSD-512 (22.89MHz) and PCM up to 768khz/32Bit via USB.
The Amp part is pretty "Retro" though, all tube EL84 Push-Pull and it even has (by-passable) tone controls and a phono stage. Also has headphone outputs.
And it is no concept, but it will ship soon ( < 1 month).
I am having one of the first sets from the pilot production run and we are fine tuning some aspects of sound and performance following feedback from the various people who also got one of the units from the pilot run.

Very cool. Are you able to mention pricing yet and how it will be sold?

These mentions 2,000 smackeroonies for the system with speakers (and nice speaker cables which I also use ATM with the system), which is what I have been hearing from the marketing guys as well. The integrated Amp/DAC alone is supposed to go for 1,400 smackeroonies.
The 1st of November shipping date was missed, sadly.
Sales will be through the usual channels, so normal iFi dealer network, Music Direct, Amazon and so on.
Sorry, no thinly disguised direct (pre) sales at discount, no discounted direct sales of other kinds etc..

Gorgeous! A little pricey IMHO but it sure looks great with lots of 'built-ins'.
Not to be overly critical but does it have a preamp output? And I assume there's no remote control?
I was eyeing the PS Audio Sprout a while back which isn't in the same league as the iFi Retro (but it's not priced like it either) and I would probably have bought one, but no remote!
I'm sure these products are geared toward folks within arm's reach like on a desktop, or control via smartphone bluetooth requiring no remote.

Makes sense. No need to compete against and piss off the very partners you just recruited to sell the new product.
Good luck!
Hi,
> Gorgeous! A little pricey IMHO
Maybe. But then again, where did you see an equivalent DAC for much less than the price of the whole unit? Or indeed a decent EL-84 Amp for much less than the whole unit?
> Not to be overly critical but does it have a preamp output?
No. For sub-woofers please use speaker level.
> And I assume there's no remote control?
There is remote control for the Volume Control.

Below are some examples of what I see on the iPad using it to remotely control the iTunes music library on my Mac Mini across the room. Running iTunes for library management on the Mini but with Audirvana Plus to bypass Apple Core Audio for improved sonics.
I tend to prefer navigating 'visually' so I simply scroll rapidly on the iPad screen with an upward or downward flick of the finger until I see album art that I want to play.
I'm not familiar with the last one. If I'm doing iTunes these are my favorite views -
Give me rhythm or give me death!
This is on the iPad screen in Remote App. iTunes on the local computer will operate in a similar fashion. If you press the thumbnail it will bring up the full-screen album art as shown below. About 95% of my album art was imported automatically. The rest was done with manual drag n drop from whatever source I could find. I'll use Amazon or some other sites in these cases.
If you press Up Next you'll see what's in the play queue.
If you're shuffling a Play List or the entire Library, you will see the various random songs in the queue. You can add songs or entire albums into the Up Next queue. If you want to jump to a particular tune in the Up Next queue you just press on it.

If I do as you suggest I get the mini player that looks like this -
Putting the cursor on it I get this -
Give me rhythm or give me death!

The Well Tempered Computer
That may be how it is displayed in iTunes on the computer. I mostly use the iPad as a controller and it appears differently, as shown in my previous post.
