Apple denies that they are shutting down Beats Music per Rolling Stones mag but it is likely that iTunes absorbs BM in the future. As the article points out the industry is moving toward subscription services vs. a CD or individual track download model. If Apple shuts down Beats Music, they will be left with a less than stellar headphone maker for their $3B investment.

What's the big deal? Is there something special in the Beats Music platform that is going away?
Apple could not car less about music other than as a money-making monopoly.
I had an iPod recently as part of a tinnitus study at the VA, with some REALLY nice calibrated ear-doodads. I could not believe how how shitty it sounded playing music.

But one that sold roughly $1 billion worth of headphones in 2013 — and the profit margin is surely huge as they are relatively cheap to produce.
Not to mention Jimmy lovine as part of the Beats acquisition on the Apple payroll and his connections in the entertainment industry. Perhaps Apple has even bigger and better plans we're not privy to?

You bet, why they'll even bend over backwards for you...
Although on my second ipad (only due to forced obsolescence, the first still works perfectly) I remain a cynic. I vehemently despise iTunes and want nothing to do with the invidious POS so I was looking forward to never having to touch it again. Yet the very first major rattle out of the box and I'm supposed to use it to update because their bloated bling firmware sucks excessive flash to install...
Keep the faith Abe, I might have it too if their SW guys were even 1/4 as competent as their HW folks.

Yup, iTunes is a bloated Swiss Army knife. Even the Apple faithful have been complaining about it.
I have yet to 'upgrade' to iOS 8.0.x but when I checked my phone, it said I was shy on memory. I think they require some temp space on the device before install. In any case, I temporarily deleted a few video clips and I'll likely do the 'upgrade' next week.
