"Steve, since Audirvana Plus and other Mac players bypass Core Audio completely, I'm wondering if you compared the ASIO driver vs a Mac player that bypasses Core Audio?"
I did Abe using Audirvana Plus and JRiver 19. The ASIO diver / Decibel sounded better.
I really enjoyed doing this review.

Steve,
- You mentioned that you used Decibel with the Core Audio driver and the ASIO driver. Doesn't this mean that the Core Audio subsystem in OS X is being used when you choose the Core Audio driver?
I sat back and listened to a large number of DSD64 files under both ASIO and Core Audio with Decibel. The ASIO driver sounded much better than the Core Audio driver that used DoP; and not by a small amount. The DoP playback with the Core Audio driver sounded somewhat compressed with less bloom and high end air. The soundstage was far more open sounding listening with the ASIO driver. And it wasn’t just DSD that benefited from the ASIO driver playback, but also PCM files. The PCM files simply sounded better with the ASIO exaSound driver.
- And you compared vs Audirvana Plus bypassing Core Audio, vs exaSound & ASIO. The exaSound & ASIO sounded better. Is this correct?
Was this also across the board for PCM & DSD, as you did with Decibel?
Thanks!

Yes, but Decibel does run a quasi integer mode.

I ran Audirvana Plus and JRiver in integer mode using the core audio driver.
This kinda bypasses core audio.
The ASIO driver only works with OSX programs that support ASIO. The is Decibel and I think now Signalyst HQPlayer.
The ASIO / Decibel sounded better than anything else I tried using both PCM and DSD files.
