Hello, everybody!
Just reading the debate about Fred's ideas on cables made me laugh.
Really, people, we are spending so much time DEBATING, why not try for ourselves. As for my personal experience, I can say that not only shielded vs unshielded sata cables affect the sound (even with memory player), but even the position of plug-in slot affects it, I mean master 0 or master 1. Thus, a sata-to-esata cable on my mobo when plugged into esata slot is worse than plugging the external hdd into a master 0 position, next, when You will remove all unnecessary harness of Your power supply, reduce the length of remaining cabling of a power supply, You will get a huge gain in sq. Next, if You can get it, GET a mobo with two ps2 slots to plug the mouse and keyboard in and ERADICATE, ANNIHILATE, KILL FOREVER the usb, I don't personally know of anything on HW level that can affect the sound quality worse than usb. That is, if You can do wo usb for music playback. Try using TWO different power supplies there is a lot of data on green cable fixture to start the computer with two ps, just google it, If (and it is preferable)You use a add-on video card, use a pci-x card and try reducing in bios its timing. TRY things, people, and then return to the debate room, please.
Serge.

Hey, S! It is good to see you around pitching in. I can attest to the good effect that some of your contributions have made to my system. I may not be able to roll out every single one of them but I know that, as the opportunity arises, each one may have potential for mine and/or other systems. Sure, YMMV is true for all but...
...many VERY sweet miles do add up for those who TRY as many as is practical.
LOL, even among those of us here joking about it , I know there's general agreement that you are generally right.
Hmmm, now, who was the one around here mocking the Feng Shui for electronics, huh? Hey, this stuff works great. Just check the cover of the lastest National Enquirer!
(Right now I'm having a bit of an issue positioning the planar speakers...damn things are "wrong" either side I turn them. : - ))
This is why I
unplug all usb during play and also the display
do not use eSata and this introduces another 'bridge'
"why not try for ourselves."
The answer is I don't have time to try everything I can think of likely to reduce emissions from my PC. I've noted no immunity problems in my downstream system and wonder more why it would behoove me to bother with this particular tweak given that knowledge.
"I can say that not only shielded vs unshielded sata cables affect the sound (even with memory player), but even the position of plug-in slot affects it, I mean master 0 or master "
And you know this to be true of every system in existence I suppose?
You don't have time to plug in a new cable but you have time to argue extensively over whether to do it?
I'm still not convinced a new cable would buy me much if anything. My experience suggests a true understanding in a given situation better helps me effectively deal with it much more quickly than the know nothing knee jerking try everything approach. While it may appear as argument from your point of view my original discussions with you were to try and gauge how useful this tweak might be to me. For the 11'ty bajillionth time, how would I know what your system configuration is without asking? To9o bad it's like pulling teeth getting useful response.

And you call yourself an audiophile?

LOL! No Rick, I don't. I'm an enthusiast.

Huh? You seem to be trying really hard to make some point here I have this feeling. Not sure what that is exactly. Come on and spit it out. What's on your mind?
Who is stalking who when you go on and on about one thing, CMMR. At least I am not too busy to listen and report my findings.
You mean CMRR? I say again huh?
There are a bazillion things one might try. Even rearranging the location of disks in the box and rerouting existing cables might affect sound quality. Why should anyone pay much attentions to suggestions from people who don't even post descriptions of the equipment used for their tests?
Maybe the guy doesn't enjoy conducting critical listening tests and would rather listen to music or argue on Internet forums with ....

Excuses, excuses...
The next test should be orientation of the music server to the earth's magnetic field. But with all the variation of component placement in different music servers, it's going to be impossible finding the best orientation for everyone's system around the world. For those down under, just reverse everything the expert tells you and you'll be fine!
How about Feng Shui for your music PC?
