Your first post talked about streaming Pandora and Spotify and using your DAC. I assumed that to mean local streaming as in bringing up the streaming App or browser on the PC then outputting audio via the DAC and the rest of your audio system.
It now appears that you want a way to bring up Spotify or Pandora on the PC or a tablet and then stream that wirelessly to another device like a Roku.
Not sure which you are trying to accomplish, or both. They are a bit different.
In any case, I would think that there should be a way to stream content from a PC or Tablet (via browser or App) to the Roku over Wifi. Is there not?
In one of my setups I can bring up Spotify, Pandora, or iTunes Radio on my iPad, iPhone, or Mac..... and stream it wirelessly over Wifi to one of the $99 AppleTV's in our bedroom or family room, or both simultaneously. I can also stream my iTunes music library (AIFF ALAC files) to the AppleTV boxes..... Not just audio but if 'screen mirroring' is selected anything on the iPad, iPhone, or Mac screen shows up on the big screen TV that the AppleTV box is attached to.
I would think that a PC, Android Tablet, or Windows Tablet should be able to do the same to a Roku or similar device. No?

Not at all. I actually want to pour gas on the Roku and burn it. ;-)I don't want to use Spotify, the sound quality is terrible. Or at least via the Roku it is; it is like pushing an ice pick into my ears. The ROKU company are also not playing nice as they told me they will not be providing a Beats app.
What I want is the following.
1.) A non proprietary device where I have the option of multiple audio streaming services; Pandora, Beats, Spotify, XM, streaming radio station etc. (streaming stuff only)
2.) It's going to go in my living room, so a smallish device that doesn't take up a lot of room will be good.
3.)It also needs to be within reach to for me to start, stop, skip tracks etc. etc. so a desktop isn't going to work all that well.
4.)Needs to be wireless networked.
I'm thinking a Windows based laptop with features like usb port and wireless is probably going to be the best bet. If I can get a tablet that can do it, it would even be better. So anybody that know laptops and tabs, let me know it the tab idea is stupid or a viable laptop alternative.
thanks
Cleet.

It will do all of that and more, not tie up a computer, can be controlled by virtually any tablet or phone, and sounds quite decent with Spotify and most any of the internet streaming services plus just about ALL internet radio stations.
We have one in the kitchen and it's replaced both the radio and CD player AND it sounds better.
I want something non-proprietary.
I don't need some narcissistic CEO of whatever company decide what I may or may not listen to. I need to get something that allows me to listen to whatever I can get on a PC.
I'm thinking worst case I just buy a laptop. I'd prefer a tab - smaller and quieter - but a laptop will do. I just need a quiet one

long before any CEO decides you can't stream music on their system.
And I here little or no difference between the SQ of MOG/BEATS and Spotify, but I really liked the MOG interface better, at least for search and discovery.
That said, the SONOS computer app searches the Spotify catalog better than the Spotify one does.
I used MOG and really liked it. I now use Spotify and I don't care what people say, it just sounds dead and sterile. Maybe some issue on my Roku I don't know. I'm just fed up not having an alternative.
Obsolescence of the hardware is irrelevant, as long as I run a current version of windows I can stream stuff you can only dream about on a Sonos, Roku, iTV etc. Me, I want options.
"Give me liberty, or give me death!" LOL
Cleet.
I didn't, but I just couldn't live with the BEATS interface plus I lost all of my favorites.
I'm guessing here, but is there any chance that Spotify is not streaming at its highest resolution on your ROKU? Can you access any setup parameters for Spotify on the ROKU?
Default for Spotify on my cell phone and iPad is LOW quality, you have to go into the setup menu to choose between NORMAL (low, 96kbps) HIGH (not at all high,160kbps) and EXTREME (high quality 320kbps and likely what you enjoyed with MOG)
Are you paying for the premium Spotify service, yes?
Have you tried Spotify on any computer you might have access to?
I'm a Spotify premium member and I cannot adjust or even check the bit rates. I'm assuming the issue is that the bitrate I'm getting is low. The sound quality is not good.
I can access Spotify fine from the PC downstairs. It's not set up for sound so I cannot judge the sound quality.
I finally bit the bullet and signed up for Spotify Premium tonight.
In the Spotify App on the computer, I went into Preferences and checked the box for "High Quality Streaming". I didn't see selections for Normal, High, Extreme. Are these for mobile devices and tablets only?
Since I chose "High Quality Streaming" is it streaming on my computer at 320kbps? Thanks.
BTW, I like the way they have the genres set up. I was exploring Classical Essentials earlier and now listening to 100 Greatest Punk Songs of All Times. My favorites will probably be Rock Classics and a couple the Jazz and Blues categories.
which would make sense for those paying for cellular data by the bit.
For me the interface is useless as I care only about specific classical music releases. And while Spotify have a huge catalog, finding stuff in it is not easy. MOG has a bit better search function where the chances of finding a specific CD was pretty good if you included composer then perhaps orchestra and various performers including conductor, etc.
Unfortunately, neither MOG/BEATS or Spotify allow search by record label.
Spotify and even more so BEATS Music want to act as a radio station and select the music for you, which I have NO interest in. Anything else is a pain.
Thanks! I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a checkbox somewhere in the App for the highest quality. I have yet to try Spotify on the smartphone or tablet.
I'm happy with both Spotify and Pandora but I'm really enjoying Spotify for browsing and 'music discovery' as it offers the genre and various sub categories. Since I am not very familiar with Classical I was able to bring up Classical Essentials, 50 Best Classical Piano, 99 Most Essential Chopin Masterpieces, etc.
And it sounds very nice in the background as I work at my desk.
