2TB was 5 years ago, moving on to 6TB later this summer....replacing 4TB...

If I recall correctly, the 2TB limit was due to 32-bit operating systems, BIOS limitations, and the master boot record on disk.... which is another good indication (in addition to the comments I made above) that the Auraliti product is based on a computer and operating system, older ones at that.
I agree that limitation is a concern. I too have a massive collection. I spread it over several drives. One huge drive to me poses more risk for failure.

to run RAID 1 on my otherwise single drive. And maintain a spare drive for the mirror. Along with backups on four external USB drives.

I think it depends on the probability of failure for the specific drive. Are larger drives more likely to fail? You still have to have backups for each drive regardless of size. However, if a large drive fails, it will take a lot longer to make another backup of a 6-TB drive compared to a 2-TB drive. On the other hand, the more drives you have the more failures you might also experience. It really boils down to whether larger 6-TB drives have greater probability for failure than smaller 2-TB drives.
