It seems, that it won't.
Hello, everybody! It was a long time, since last tweaks were posted, so, here goes.
This tweak is Big, it's Long, BORING and tedious, but I hope, You will like it.
First:
If You remember, we were changing files' attributes, like removing the indexing for fast search, setting exe files' attributes for 256 colors, disabling additional text services? for them and so on. I translate from my memory, and as You know my working windows is Russian, but, here goes:
1. right click on ntldr and rename it to ntldr.exe ! Set the attributes for it just the way You did to regular exe files, next rename back to ntldr.
2. Rename ALL the remaining dlls from system32 to exe, like, for example, basesrv.dll to basesrv.exe, and set the file attributes the way You would to normal exe files.
See the pics. DO IT ONLY ONE BY ONE, doing it to a group of renamed dlls will end in NOT setting the file attributes to them all, only to some. Don't ask me why. Don't forget to click APPLY and the OK.
AND A WARNING! After You rename the files back to dll, they will automatically require that you untic File ready for archiving and allow indexing for fast file search crap. see pic 0.jpg

Hi guys
I must admit that this steppe's trick (original> .exe> .com> original) is really incredible!
Disclaimer: I don't use a nlite cMP2 (I've found the regular version sounds better in my setup) nor slimmed version. My system get some fishy secrets, formerly maxmem (most important IMHO).
In brief, I've found that:
- any modified file works just right
- we can apply this one to .exe files of cicsmemoryplayer and cicsplay
- if you treat all .exe, .dll and .drv of system folder the sound becomes gorgeous, the dynamic improves like the timbric refinement, all the music developement appears more clear and better coherent.
So I've trated all .exe activated in process of taskmanager, without any problem
After these files I've trated all files (but shvapi.dll) listed here (from a previous jack wong's thread )in the system32 folder
1) ole32.dll
2) shell32.dll
3) setupapi.dll
4) netapi.dll
5) advapi32.dll
6) comctl32.dll
7) comdlg.dll
8) cryptdll.dll
9) lsasrv.dll
10) mpr.dll
11) msasn1.dll
12) msvcp60.dll
13) ntdsapi.dll
14) rpcrt4.dll
15) samlib.dll
16) samsrv.dll
17) scesrv.dll
18) secur32.dll
Result is incredible. Try to believe!
Thanks a lot steppe for your efforts in the cMP2 developemnt
Hey Serge,
1. right click on ntldr and rename it to ntldr.exe ! Set the attributes for it just the way You did to regular exe files, next rename back to ntldr.
Do you have a link to what you are talking about that was done to the regular exe files?
Also for multiple picts in one post just hit the preview option and then browse for a new pict. Repeat
Afterwards we discovered faith; it's all you need
It really opened up after I did the process on ndetect and ntdlr. Way to go on this tweak Serge.
that get really very very clean and smooth.
Hello, Ted! Hello, everybody! I STARTED this tweak with ntldr and ntdetect.com and clearing System Volume information, so in my cmp it became evident immediately, then I started working on all other files. They all contribute a little, and the cumulative effect is getting bigger and cleaner after several days, but it is very probable, that the biggest part of the secret is in the first two files and Sys Vol Info folder.
BTW, with highs so clean it sounds now like THE LOWS and Lower Mids are cleaned in fact, but it IS the Highs, You are right.
Glad, that You liked it.
Serge
...Ole32 and lsvr(sp?) and it worked like a charm. Picked up 3 mb of memory and its hard to tell if it sounds significantly better but certainly no worse and maybe just a little better. But this is testing only 2 of the dll's.
Now I will do rest of dll's.
For those who try this here is my process. I copied the cmp dll's into a folder, changed them there per Serge, renamed original cmp dll's to *.dllbak like ole32.dllbak then copied reworked files into cmp. This way there is always a backup to easily go back if something does not boot.
Serge your genious/creativity never ceases to amaze me!! Well done.
Did another 20 or so files. So far so good.
Nice to see you post again Serge! I'm trying to remember how to set attributes. Is it right within Windows or is it through Resource Hacker or a similar program?
Its amazing that you have found yet more stuff to reduce memory.
Welcome back.
Just Right-click on a file, like lsass.exe, and You will see the options, I have posted in the tweak (see the pics). Just the same way, when you RENAME, say, kernel32.dll to kernel32.EXE, You will see the same options. Just follow the tweak guides, First set the attributes to a file, while it is an EXE, then rename it to *.com and set attributes according to part 2 and three. I will meanwhile try to rename and tweak all *.sys files. I HAVE tweaked this way winspool.drv, but I HAVEN"t YET tweaked the nls files and win32k.sys, but They WILL follow!!!
The effect is dramatic, I'd say, knowing more or less YOUR setup. With 16 mb windows everything matters, and such a tweak, is a BIG thing. Also, I think I should post that:
I use JW's micro shell32.dll with ntfs wo a problem
I have tried both fat32 and ntfs AND I prefer ntfs for LESS noise, if any
My system hive is 24 kb with ntfs, and it DOESN'T matter what file system You chose
All these things were done on a system with ONLY ONE hdd, that contains windows AND all wavs-cues on the same partition.
I boot in less than 1,5 minute with appr. 900 cue files, the single piece of a song not split is more than 5 min 14 sec. with / maxmem set for 500Serge.

Hi Steppe,
thanks.
Can you please give us a description of what this tweak should bring.
with setting file attributes to the real exe files, renaming and setting file attributes to DLLs (that are, in fact, programs-read exe modules) will give a very clear and airy presentation. More, I think that data from restore points' folders in system volume information folder is to some extent kept in memory. The effect of clearing a large amount of memory is akin to setting very tight timings, I mean it's immediate, but will bloom and surprise within appr. 24-48 hours.
The overall presentation is now with a profoundly deep and wide scene and with lower mids much better defined, however, I'd attribute it to clearer Highs' presentation. MUCH clearer. The attributes we set will remain with the file even after renaming back to dll. I will start renaming and setting these attributes to *.sys files as well. I know, that this work is very dull, especially, as we need to do it only one file a ta time, and I understand that there is little explanation (from such an ignorant-in-computers person, like me) but the tweak works, no doubt. In fact there ara only about 40+ dlls that remain, so... If You remember, many folks were doubtful about removing debug info from the files, however it worked brilliantly. I want to point also, that when we rename dll to a com, we set the file to PREVENT using High Memory Area, and ttf fonts. It seems to work as well.
Just try cleaning system volume info and setting attributes to ntldr, ntdetect.com, kernel32.dll, ntdll.dll, bootvid.dll and framebuffer.dll. I am sure the effect will be very strong.
Serge.
It's all about cleaning more memory, after all.
I am aware that you are using an ultra slimmed cMP2 system.
However, can your tweak be used safely by people with a "classic" cMP2 (from XP SP2/3)?
here is Ted's discovery comes handy.
Hello, J-L!
Ted pinpointed, that the biggest effect comes from tweaking ntdetect.com and ntldr. I would add, that clearing System Volume Information folder seems to be another big thing. BTW, if You are going to post this tweak on Italian site, I can send You my complete windows (16 mb) with registry and all even with tweaked cmp-cplay programs so that You can post it there as a reference material for people who would like to go the slimming way.
Serge.
Before we do it, let me try to tweak drivers, also, I will report by saturday.
Can't wait to give it a try.
When I can ...
Itīs always worth considdering that the leaner the overall system becomes (and the systems involved here, are indeed), every little change provkes a substantial & audiable change.
I often think that people that are not following the cMP approach, and thus are fiddling around with huge standard platforms, always report that they canīt percieve any change when they delete/deactivate things.
Yeah right : of course one cannot expect any sonic improvement by removing 50KB of "overhead", when the entire system comprises 700MB....
Agree ?
kind regards

Now to the tweak part three
If You take a look at the System Volume Information folder on Your windows (CMP)hdd, You will see, it has zero size and The folder is empty,
Now, IT'S A LIE ! ! ! It contains about 10 mb of data in restore09765454767--- something like that subfolders. Including copies of the intact registry, btw.
Open this hdd as a seconday one (the way You did when tweaking the registry) and Take posession of the folder:
It is a Yelling folder, and I had to perform it several times, but to take posession You have to make all hidden, protected and system files visible, then reboot and rightclick the System Volume Information Click on Properties
Click on Security tab
Then add the user account on which You want to access the System Volume Information Folder (administrator or Administrator). Now click OK and it is ready to explore.
Delete there everything You can. You will only have a tracking.log there remaining. Perform all You did to dlls, to the last wonderful file, namely ntdetect.com. (be sure to back up ntldr and ntdetect.com before You do this tweak.)
Now reboot into CMP and listen to the music.
The complete tweak sets in 24 hours, make several reboots.
Serge.
Could not find the security tab here...does not show up. I can see the restore file about 15mb of stuff. I guess I can just delete it all. Right?
Works fine,sounds good!Thanks again Serge!

This is part two of the tweak and it's even longer, even more boring and much more difficult, as it requires attention.
After You set the attributes to dll files that You had renamed to exe-s, don't hurry to rename them back to dll-s, rather, rename them now to *.com, so that the original basesrv.dll that is now basesrv.exe would become basesrv.com, Yes a DOS extention!
One-by-one method ONLY! Now set the attributes as follows:
1. open general tab, at the bottom You will see attributes with a MORE option, click and set everything as in pic 2.jpg
2. open program tab, click on more (or advanced, I don't know how it goes in normal windows), a dialog appears, just delete there info about autoexec.bat and config.nt, SEE PIC 3.jpg, You cannot miss.
3.Open Font tab and set the file to use ONLY raster (screen) font, remember those tiny 4-5 kb fonts, that have a *.fon extention? There they go! Also set the font size to the smallest - 4x6 pixel. See pic 4.jpg
4. Pic 5.jpg shows two more steps. open memory tab and uncheck Use HMA (High Memory Area), next open Screen tab and remove (uncheck):
Restore parameters at startup and Emulate RAM Function (Fast ROM), see pic and DON't touch Dynamic memory assignment
5. Last But Very Important! Open Miscellaneous tab and set uncheck Screen saver, all hot key combinations, everything, except Background regime , set priority while waiting to Lowest. SEE PIC 6.jpg
This is the end of part two. Part three to follow now
just a pic to the initial post
