I got to thinking one day, maybe were backing the wrong side over there. Why not sell guns to Arafat and build up their military so they are more or less equal to the Israelies? Palestine wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell in a war with Israel and they know it, so they resort to the quasi-guerilla warfare tactic of suicide bombing. Tick 'em off enough to get a response (such as what has been/is currently going on in the West Bank) and before you know it the other Arab states and many others are taking sides with the underdog. After all, isn't it true that if everyone was armed, there would be less violence? If we give 'em guns and ammo, some tanks and planes and such, maybe Israel will think twice about invading or occupying any more territories if the occupants can shoot back. On the other hand, if Arafat wants a proper war, he can decide if he has the kahonies(sp?) to play with the big boys and risk losing everything. (Assuming of course, other nations or groups stay out of the tussle.) I mean settle the damn thing, once and for all, with a fair fight between just the two groups.
Heck, while were at it, let's throw in a few nuclear warheads as well. Nothing says deterrence like Mutually Assured Destruction. After all, wasn't this the thinking that defeated the Evil Empire and won the Cold War for us? Not only that, but think of the impact on our economy. A bonanza for the defense contractors!
(I often wonder if Sharon had done nothing in response to suicide bombings, how many there would have been before they came to realize it wasn't working or, more importantly, before the UN, EU and even other Arab and Islamic states would have viewed Israel with more sympathy in taking on the role of martyr and have pressured Arafat, Hamas and others to put an end to the stupidity. Not a popular decision with the survivors of the innocent civilians killed I suppose.)
Ok, taking my medications now.
