They often tend to forget things like this, even though we have to file US returns every year on our world-wide income. (In high-tax countries, it's not a problem, as foreign tax credits erase the US tax liability).

About time we give a little motivation to jerks who think a new boat or F150 is higher priority than medical insurance for their family.

We should never make one's decision for him.

and tell us exactly what the penalty is for not purchasing health insurance.

They were a carnival of American decay on parade, and they had no idea of the atrocity they had inflicted upon themselves–Henry Chinaski
That's goofy talk. Its not frontier days anymore. People have responsibilities; like it or not. And more and more Americans reject them and stay perpetual adolescents. We used to be grown-ups in this country.

What possible concocted rational do you use to conjure up the notion you have a right to command me to purchace health insurance? I am a resident of New Hampshire the Live Free or Die State. I am not r equired to carry ANY insurance for anything ,my house , my car or my "health". I will be Almighty God Danmed if I will start paying anyone a monthly premium for the fraud scam that is health insurance.. If I need a doctor I pay for him THEN AND THERE.. to you and the likes of you I say Step the Fuck away from me..

You're so cute!
every other state has mandated base line liability insurance for autos to assure that YOU don't have to pay for damages caused by the actions of someone else.
Your statement, 'If I need a doctor I pay for him THEN AND THERE' sounds real bold and courageous, but naive at the same time, considering the realities of our current system. If you had occasion to use the system lately, you would know that there is a big difference between what is called 'retail' [the price they charge the uninsured] and acceptable costs for health care. The latter being what your insurance company negotiates and actually pays.
Of course you could have an unusually secure and lavish income....but most of us don't and have to find different solutions.
At least until we can access one of the 'public options' out there.

If you own your car, not financed you are not compelled to buy any insurance whatsoever. If you're financing the car yes because you don't fully own it. I own my car and if I elecet to drive it in any other State I am still not required to have it insured to any extent. It so happenes I do have it insured to the hilt but the argument doesn't support requiring me to buy health Insurance.. it is nothing more than a Tax to cover those who lack the means to have every health need treated..
Or a sudden, debilitating disease requiring long-term treatment ? That's why everyone should be insured and everyone should contribute to the insurance pool (just like in every other modern country).
There is another problem: cost controls. What medical service providers charge varies widely depending on insurance plan(s) or lack thereof. I can't believe the markups for the uninsured.
That is the fact of the matter. I am not interested. If a life form can't sustain its own existance it dies out.. Taxing (which is what this bill does) the well off to support the unsustainable will bankrupt the well being of the Nation.. agaian THAT is what THIS is all about.. Marx must be wetting himself with Communistic glee.
Thanks, that puts your rants into context. Beam me up, Scotty...no intelligent life form here.

why should I pay for anyone to do it just because they lack the means to maintain their own existance?
You have no idea how much you have in common with the Taliban. Starting with a mentality frozen in the wrong century. Really. You're soul mates.

What makes this scary is in a lot of cases, the decisions we make for others end up being *against* their will. This is totalitarianism at its rotten core.

You prove you have no idea what totalitarianism is. Find some people who do and learn.

This is who these people are.. masquerading as enlightened elitists they are nothing more than egomaniacal power-mad fascist dictators PERIOD...

It's not so much that I'm surprised..... Maybe who I'm dealing with simply doesn't realize what he's advocating...... That's why I kind of defined totalitarianism, which is the government imposing its will over those of the people.
Failing to purchase health insurance should never be deemed a crime.

It's really simple.
If you CHOOSE to not purchase health insurance you will be assessed, on your Federal Income Tax bill and amount equal to 2.5% of your ADJUSTED MODIFIED GROSS INCOME. AND.. It can't exceed the AVERAGE national premium for that tax year.
For the poor guy making minimum wage, that ain't much!

If this bill becomes law....... Would this mean if people are unemployed and broke, they could end up going to jail because they have no funds to pay for the insurance? This almost sounds like the government would have to round up these people by the millions and send them off to camps..........
Edits: 11/06/09
Subsidies, tax credits, or whatever... maybe a bit more incentive to go find work or prove you tried. Then there is alway unemployment benefits which could be massaged. I have not read the details.
and send them off to camps.
Only if they're Muslim!
