Any mastering house that did a job that bad would not get any future business.
Its far more likely that you have a bug in the setup of the arm and cartridge. If the arm is too massive and the compliance of the cartridge too high, the result can easily be excessive woofer pumping.
As you surmised, this has little to do with the amp, although getting rid of LF noise like this helps!
I've not had to employ any filters and even at high volumes I don't get pumping despite having bandwidth to 2 Hz in the electronics.

It did not happen with 95% of my records, but some seemed to have that problem. Interestingly, I don't remember any originals having the problem, just heavy vinyl records and mostly live performances. Still, I like the fact that any residual, even if it is stealthy is caught now.
I believe my setup is correct and the arm and cartridge are well matched. But, it is a unipivot. I may not have mentioned that I have experienced this effect with 3 different tables, 6 cartridges, an sme arm, rega arm, nottingham arm and now vpi arm. I still believe its in the grooves, but we can agree to disagree on that.

But such would not be a mastering problem.
