Also known as the Ultraviolet preamplifier, the chassis and lettering colors have changed, and the optional stepup transformers will be mounted inside the chassis.
Ralph kindly sent this snapshot to me today, and I thought it might be of interest. I look forward to receiving my demo UV-1 in the next week or so.

Never mind!
I mentioned to Ralph the idea of using the phase switch on my MP1 as a mono switch (because I am deaf to 180 degree phase switching anyway). With the upsurge of interest in vinyl, many of us have purchased mono LPs, produced from the early 50s (the beginning of the LP era) to as late as the mid-60s. I found by messing with some vintage preamplifiers for fun, that the listening experience is very much enhanced by switching to mono for mono LPs. Short of buying a mono only cartridge, this is a major improvement. In fact, I had never realized what I was missing. Mono LPs sound MUCH better played in mono, either by virtue of combining the two channels via a mono switch or with a mono cartridge.
A mono cartridge is what to use for playing mono records. The phase switch has its place.

Thanks for the directives, but in lieu of purchasing a mono cartridge that would meet my standards, I have found, using other (vintage) preamplifiers on my Beveridge system, that a mono switch on the preamplifier hugely improves the reproduction of 50s and later (i.e., "modern era") mono LPs, using a stereo cartridge. Further, the phase switch is like tits on a bull for me. Neither I nor any member of my family, some of whom are not so old, can hear any difference re "phase". This may be because of my using dipole (Sound Lab 845PX) speakers. In fact, my dirty little secret is that I bypassed the phase switch on my MP1 a few years ago, for that reason.
Eventually I do plan to purchase a mono cartridge. However, there are also hypothetical imperfections in that approach to mono LPs when one is driving a stereo system. Nothing is perfect.
Got a recommendation for an excellent mono cartridge that does not break the bank?
I observe an aperture for balance adjustment.
Vbr,
Sam
