My MA-1's and MP-1 have all finally gotten to the point that it's time to re-tube.Any advice on current production 6SN7s? Due to health issues and other concerns, I've rather lately gotten away from the Asylum and haven't had my thumb on the pulse of such things for quite awhile. Gotten kind of out of touch.
I've quite a number of NOS 5692's on the shelf...but they didn't do much for me the last time I tried them (and I don't have enough true 6SN7s to do a full re-tube with....or not unless I do a lot of mix-n-matching)

I'm running the Psvane in my MP-1. I'm not a tube roller, but to me they sound better than the original (factory) tubes.
For my MA-1s, I just buy tubes from Ralph, as I know they'll work.
-All three have gotten rave reviews by owners.
I can hear Lew now, 'you should wait a couple of weeks before making a decision'.
Sorry Lew, don't need much time.
The Sophia's went in this afternoon, left to warm up, and played this evening.
After only a couple of albums;
The midrange is everything people say it is, crystal clear, no 'new tube hash', and very full. Female voice is perfect.
The base is clean and tight. Something I don't get from my Tung Sol round plates, or my Kenrad vt231's.
It took a couple of hours, but the highs are just as clean.
I will play them for a few more days, reinstall either my Sylvania's or my RCA grey glass, and report back.
Ralph, worth every penny.
Is there a tube tester anywhere near the Big Dogma?.
My favorite is the Amplitrex.
I may get laughed at for this, but the 5692's work great 'away' from position 1. Use them in the last two positions.
I've had good luck with the "new" Tung-Sol by New Sensor. (see link)
