I am using the same amps and I've found with my efficient speakers that removing some tubes (from 2 to 3 a side) works best and you do not need jumpers to do this.

Thanks Steve. I have considered power tube removal but am concerned that with less tubes there will be concomitant changes in impedance with could change the interaction with my jubals, which are nominally 8 ohms. They sound wonderful now after a recent crossover rebuild and I am hesitant to disrupt their synergy with the M60s. But it may be worth trying. Also for the last week or so here in NH that heat from sixteen power tubes has been welcome.
Understand your concern Jumpsturdy. I'm located in Nashua and with my new AZ Crescendos I'm now using an Auto-transformer that turns their 6 ohm load into a 12 ohm load seen by the M60's, a great improvement. With my Ocellia speakers that are a flat 16 ohm load and 97 efficient speaker I had to remove 3 tubes a side.
Where in NH are you located?
I'm over in Claremont. Met you a few years back at the DSOTM shootout.
I have had my M60's and Mp3 for a number of years. Usually configured with Coincident Super Eclipse speakers. My present situation is dictated because I had to move equipment into a much smaller room; will be moving everything back when done digitizing a few hundred LPs. So the changes I make to amps or preamp are temporary only.
Been running the balanced output from the MP3 directly into my Hilo balanced input and then using the Hilo's monitor volume control to send output to the amps. Having finer granularity on the MP3 volume control will give me greater precision in setting recording levels. Being able to lower the amps gain will simply allow me a better gain structure for playback.
