Transcedent had a model called T4 which I think was their first OTL which uses 4 6C33C ... The circuit is almost identical to the later T8 which uses 8 EL509. It think you have a T4. The patent that I posted uses the 6C33C. I think Transcedent used to convert the older model to the T8.
There was a model with 6c33c's. The 6c33c outputs were later abandoned due to reliability issues.
And more recently I have heard that it is very difficult to get new EL 509's, due partly to
ambiguity in the specs.
It is too bad 6LF6's are so hard to find now.
6C33C certainly are not unreliable in my Atma MA240s. I just recently changed out the tubes just based on principle, since they were more than 10 years old with no failures. One helpful bit is that I (with Ralph's input) re-designed my amps so that each 6C33 has its own driver tube section. This allows for individual biasing of each tube, so no one tube is being driven very hard whilst its partners are loafing.
I read something recently about the EL509s. I think the idea is to stay away from recent production, either Chinese or Russian, can't recall which. They cannot handle any current. If you can dig up some early production, they are great. 6LF6 seem to be unobtainium unfortunately. I sold off a batch to Jim McShane several years ago and have seen none since. This is not a good situation for Futterman lovers.
Would you care to compare Panthere, NYAL OTL3, Transcendent, when you've had the chance to audition the latter? I am curious.
I had a chance to put several days of use on the Trancendent and Fourier amps, first left the Trancendents on for 1 week, listening for a few hours each day, the sound was very nice, compared to the Futtermans they were a little down in the lowest octave but not much. The sound never waivered during the week, always nice and tight... Then hooked up the Fourier Pantheres, they have been on for 9 days strait with no issues, listening for the same 2 hours a day the amps just better each day for the first 3 days, better in a way that they sounded just as the Trancendents did, a little light in the lowest notes, but that was only the case for the first day, day 2 there was an undenyable improvement in the bass response from them, on day 3 the bass was to the point that if it got any better it would have been a crime, bonecrushing bass from the Von Schweikert VR4's, awesome, they are a 6ohm speaker, never was there any indication of the amps running out of steam, just listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn Tin pan Alley, never heard it any better, the bass was just as tight as when I was using my Mark Levinson 332.
I purchased another set of otl-3's last week off of audiogon, was pricey but need a power transformer for the set that I have now, befor they see any playtime a thouough replacement of all electolitics will be performed.
I do not at this time own atma-sphere amps, I have a friend that built the Novacrons when they were available...Awesome, they were the reason I always knew that OTL was the way to go.
But from all the listening that I have done in the last 2 months using the Trancendents, Fourier's and Futtermans, I would have to say the most pleasing was the Futtermans, I know that many will dissagree but those amps are magic!
Happy Listening.
