In my linestage and circlotron output stage, I favor the Kenrad 6SN7GT or VT231, but I am running out of good ones, due to the fact that I inadvertently left my preamp running for more than two months, 24/7, while my system was otherwise out of commission due to amplifier mods described below. One of the KenRads went microphonic during that time. I never tried the W's due to high cost. Got a bunch of 5692s, including RCA red-base and GE. Got a few Raytheons; some are good sounding, some not. I will probably have to buy some more KenRads, somewhere.
My bad as Ralph says below ccs. I found the Ken Rads to be noisy and micrphonic, nice tube in amps. Tried W's but I felt they are a bit bright for Atma Sphere. I have and may try the VT231, nice tubes, problem is finding quiet non microphonic ones due to their place in the gain stage.

In my experience, the sonics are more brand-dependent than they are numerical designation dependent. In other words, a KenRad VT231 will sound pretty much like a KenRad 6SN7GT. And an RCA 5692 red base will sound like an RCA 6SN7GT, whereas all KenRads tend to sound different from all RCAs. This one linestage tube in my preamp is the first microphonic KenRad I've had, and it happened after several years of service. So my experience of KenRads is different from yours.
The MP-1 MkIII uses 6SN7s for Constant Current Sources, but not for voltage regulators. You can use a GT in any position- the highest voltage that any 6SN7 sees inside the preamp is about 150 volts.
That makes more sense, based on what I know and what I saw in some recent photos of the innards of a MkIII.
