Rearranging the music room, I'm hoping to get the equipment rack off to one side. This will mean longer cable runs. I don't want to give up my Shunyata Orion speaker cables (special, they) so that means longer ICs between the MP-1 Mk.III and the MA-1 Mk.IIIs. After reading Springbok's archived comparo between Purist Dominus and Mogami Neglex, I say lets try cheap! I'm seeing "Mogami Gold Neglex Quad Microphone Cable for Studio Neutrik XLR" at $56 - whoa. Any suggestions on an alternative spec, or alternative cable? Presently using 12ft runs of Shunyata Antares, so I'm really spoiled.
And Lew, if you're reading this are you still happy with your Goertz ICs?
TIA,
Tim
...to Studio Projects SPC-203X LITZ . They sound every bit as good as the Mogami between my Atma-Sphere pre and amps.
Hi,
I've always had good luck making my own with Neutrik connectors and Mogami 2549.
William
Glad to hear that you're willing to give the Mogami a try. Do the specifications on these $56 cables mention the wire type?
There are two types which are considered suitable for balanced audio IC: Type 2534 and Type 3173. The latter is designated as a 'digital' cable for AES/EBU service, but some users have reported that they prefer this over the 2534 for analog transmission.
In either case, please let us know your impressions of the new wires. The cost / performance ratio of the Mogami wire is simply excellent - and the production quality is very consistent, which is why Atma-Sphere consistently recommends these products to all new-adopters of balanced line preamplifiers. In short, you cannot go wrong.

Frankly I'm a bit skeptical the Mogami can equal my current ICs in preserving that last bit of tonal nuance wrung from the grooves by my record player. But hey, getting the rack from between the speakers will help image focus and depth, so I'm motivated to try longer runs.
I'm hearing three Mogami wire types. The cost is nice so maybe I'll have someone who does this regularly build 'em for me. Anyone use Redco or suggest an alternative?
Redco
30 feet with Neutrik NC3FX-B and NC3MX-B XLR connectors
Quantity: 1
W2534 - $35.50 (Quad Mic Cable)
W2549 - $40.00 (standar Mic Cable)
W3173 - $65.20 (AES/EBU)
Any comments on sonic diffs between these? Thanks guys for your help.
Rgds,
Tim
I made 30 foot balanced ICs of Mogami Neglex, and then I made 30 foot balanced ICs of Oyaide PA-02. I prefer the PA-02 because it's more refined, less grainy, and has a clearer sound.
Still, Mogami is an incredible value and it's hard not to heartily recommend it.
