Will cease operating on the 31st of January 2017.
Very sad indeed!!

Looks as if existing customers will be contacted - hopefully for refunds of unused portions of their subscriptions.
Too bad; their prices were more reasonable than the other sites, for the most part (though the actual process was a bit unintuitive).

Unfortunately this fits exactly with my prediction, see final pargraph in linked posting, that this venture could not succeed once they lost repertoire other than that from the Naxos group. As I have also said, enjoy hi-rez streaming while you can. The business pressures are ultimately for the mp3 services to be dominant simply because of their desire for exclusive deals and their overwhelmimg economic strength e.g. Apple and Google Music.

Hopefully that means less competition for both QOBUZ and TIDAL.
Notice more than a couple NAXOS titles showing up on the 'Nouveautés - Classique' section of QOBUZ of late. Lot of older stuff in my favorites that stopped playing over a couple years ago from NAXOS still not playing though. :-(
Seems that they've struck out with whatever hi-rez venture they've tried: DVD-Audio, SACD, Blu-ray Audio, and now, with the demise of Classics Online HD, hi-rez streaming. Sorry to see it.
Dunno about cold feet but there is a clear mismatch between a label that is perceived as budget and a medium that is currently perceived as high end. Rightly or wrongly. So no surprise. Not that I think hi-rez itself is (was) necessarily the main problem with Classics Online. Limited repertoire was likely the major reason for its demise. As for the other media? Minority interest. Even the majors have largely got out of those silver disc carriers.
There is a major industry push on hi-rez this year so if (if!) that gets a measure of mass market traction, who knows ?

Not enough lovers of classical music to support them. Since streaming and downloads are passing by CD's making the future of cd's doubtful you have to wonder what Naxos will do.
