Romeo & Juliet?
OK, he's not exactly a Evgeny Mravinsky, is he.
Being a long-time vinyl guy, that's my reference for 4, 5 and 6.
Very different here with subtle shadings and yes, I can understand the criticisms.
Guessing Bychkov has been living the good life outside Mother Russia for a bit too long. ;-)
Follow Ups:
Late Philips analog with the Concertgebouw.
Proves that even the coolest conductor can get a fever once and awhile.
However, the Kitaenko SACD (despite his use of a doctored score) is pretty amazing too - maybe even more amazing.
The Romeo and Juliet was excellent. Seemed like a different orchestra and conductor. Also, the sound quality seemed much better, too. Different time and/or engineering team?
