I thought I had best follow up on my earlier posting on this recording (see link). Otherwise I may be guilty of giving the impression that it is a bad thing.Firstly the SQ issue. This seems to have been the result of my Qobuz desktop player having become corrupted. I have re-installed the app and now judge the sound to be perfectly acceptable given its live origins and the inevitable compromises that the engineer had to make.
Having read Chris' review I have to say that I am in general agreement with all of his points save that I rather enjoyed the clarinet in "I Know My Redeemer Liveth". In fact I rather enjoyed the whole thing except for the Bass and Soprano soloists which were, um, adequate. Loved the Mezzo - horsepower where it's needed :-).
Chris, thanks for your review and recommendation of the Sibelius recording from the same hall. Unfortunately I cannot play DVD audio discs.

However, the price is a bit more than I'd want to pay for a plain old CD-quality download - and maybe those 8 additional bits (that you get on the DVD-Audio) make a difference! ;-)
(BTW, thanks for the kind words about my comments on the A. Davis Messiah.)
Thanks Chris but Presto's site says " Sorry, download not available in your country " .
That is interesting as it seems that this UK retailer clearly has repertoire that is only available to non- UK customers. I don't even get to see a price.
Yes I think that extra 8 bits does make a difference. However my inate scepticism leads me to believe that it is not completely down to additonal information but that 24 bit processors are better working with a 24 bit word as they do not have to do additional processing as in the case of shorter word lengths. If that is so it doesn't really matter much if the 8 bits contain data or are upsamples i.e. 8 extra digital zeros. I can ,and do, synthesise that additional 8 zeros for all of my listening with audibly benefical results. After all no one really needs or can even use a 144dB dynamic range.
