4 and 7 are more popular, and those were the first Bruckner that I heard, but over the years, they've lost a bit of their appeal.
My personal favorite is Wand's 8th from Lübeck:

Chacun a son gout. I have this recording and I think the reverb is a distraction. Wand's live Bruckner 8, same orchestra, at Suntori Hall in Tokyo is the best performance and sound quality IMO--1989. Celibidache recorded the same symphony in that hall a year later but he lets things drag too much.
Wand's B8 with the BPO is superb! I have the SACD version.
It's more exalted than his first on Harmonia Mundi, but Wand still floats those string and harp chords better than anyone else.
