In Reply to: RE: Exactly - I wasn't using the term, "modernism", willy-nilly posted by Chris from Lafayette on July 05, 2016 at 11:55:20
So, you don't like Schoenberg, Berg and Webern. And you don't like post-Webern modernists. But except for those limited, narrow, precisely defined exceptions, you love modern music.
Follow Ups:
Actually, Schoenberg wrote one of my top ten favorites of ANY music yet composed - that would (of course!) be "Verklaerte Nacht". I also love most of the "Gurrelieder" - especially the choral finale! Other Schoenberg works I like include the First Chamber Symphony and the Theme and Variations for Band - and I always felt I could get to like his "Pelleas and Melisande" - but, so far, it hasn't happened yet, and time is running out! ;-)
Of course, as you may know from my previous posts, I tend not to like examples of "weepy" serialism (such as the Berg Violin Concerto) - but we've been over that subject already. ;-)
