As a lifelong guitar wanker,(hopeless student) many genres grab my attention. Jazz is one of therm.Random clip of some "average "player "auditioning" for Merv Griffin during his early years.
The musicians/player/ hobbyist will get a kick out this one. Merv picks a songbook standard.Bandleader calls the key of some standard...GET IN THE POCKET....then SOLO!
I can only wish for 1/100th of musical brain that JH had!Who didn't play/sing with Jim Hall? I wasnt aware Merv could throw down on the keys?
I just remember the bad plaid suits of the 70's.

to arrive for my route. Just the first 20 minutes or so for the band section/interaction.
Jack Sheldon and Ray Brown were always fantastic, even when they played!

Jack Sheldon is one of those "do it all" kind of guys with his acting/singing talent. The great Ray Brown is probably on at least one album of EVERY AA members Jazz record collection.

Amazing talent - too often neglected
"Man is the only animal that blushes - or needs to" Mark Twain
He and Art Pepper were a match made in Heaven!
Jack had his own TV Show," Run Buddy Run",
and was a good Comedian.
The Jazz Musician's 12 Days of Christmas is so funny!
comedian than as the brilliant musician he is.
Was at The GAMH the night this LP was recorded and Sheldon was
the nominal host. An LP of just his monologues/one liners/jokes/PERSONALITY
that night would have been MUCH more satisfying than the released recording!
