Shop from Orvis or from Ben Silver, young lady.
As dressed on the first CD cover, people are likely to mis-guess your profession.

I can believe a, shall we say, risque cover will sell pop music, but
classical? Is anyone under 60 listening to classical?
The youngsters avail themselves of vastly more explicit digital images than anything seen on an album cover.
Happy listening,
Jim

What would fox news think?
She is one hell of a bach player.
I remember reading one of her interviews wherein she was asked directly about that booklet cover (which, BTW, she described as a "fun" cover!), and she mentioned that, although she was in her early 20's when that photo was taken, her facial features made her appear younger.
Was twenty-five in that picture. She looks like she's not sixteen, though. Not lost on the PR people.
Viagra is real.
Who dresses her? Why would you assume it is anyone but herself?
Mis Guess her profession? What? Like maybe guess she is a violinist?

I don't mind overexposed gowns so long as they look tasteful ( like Yuja's ).
This one looks cheap. Add a tattoo or two, the cover of the CD can be an ad for an adult entertainment club. Particularly the second shot, she's got that drug induced blank look.P.S. I hope she plays better than she looks.

Hilarious. Don't say this over on Usenet forums or they will come for you with torches in hand. I have to say that I think Yuja dropped the ball big time in her choice of CD covers for the Rach III Prok II CD with Dudamel.
I prefer her latest Ravel cover better ( similar colour palatte to Amy Winehouse's Frank ) but what's wrong with the Rak/Prok cover?
It's just bad IMO. I also prefer the Ravel cover. Shame that at the last minute she opted for that horrible cover. the original cover was a fantastic shot of her during the actual concert.

It's trendy with cat eye make up and all which already seems out of date now.
Did you work on her make up for the shoot?
Is this the alternative cover you speak of?
I love her Ravel cover.
I am hoping DG will release one of her album in vinyl.
I did do her makeup. But that is not the original cover either. Here is the original
That's flat.
Too busy in composition with a straight typography. Not going to cut through both in a retail or online shelf space.
The simpler colourful final cover draws stronger focus on the main subject. ( Yuja)
It looks overly manufactured and perhaps her charming friendly personality not showing through but it's a show biz after all.
and some stills we took for the cover that were ultimately used for the booklet.

And as for the concert attire, it seems you may have been "out of the scene" for awhile? I can tell you from experience that many of the high-school girls I accompany (violinists and cellists mostly) wear attire that would make Yuja Wang blush! In fact, I played a concert a couple of weeks ago where one girl's "gown" consisted of a shorter mini than any of Yuja's skirts, while her footwear consisted of high-top basketball shoes! Meanwhile, her parents were looking on approvingly. ;-)
C'mon - Vanessa looks (and plays!) great! In your heart, you know I'm right! ;-)
I am well aware of how local strippers and drug addicted girls look.
It's not about the coverage or length of a hemline.
Yuja's attire is always classy to my eyes. It might be due to her physical structure, too. ( some girls just look very cheap and from a wrong side of street without even trying ) Yuja always looks sassy. Not trashy. ( there is a fine line )
However, I can see this *trashy cheap* look can be appealing to some.
But my gut feeling upon looking at this shot is not entirely positive.
Then again, she could have looked a lot worse like Courtney Love.
It is a show biz. after all so I certainly understand a performer needs to create an *image*.
"I am well aware of how local strippers and drug addicted girls look."
Interesting. If I may be so bold (and getting serious for a moment), would you mind sharing what line of work you're in? If you don't want to share this information, I completely understand. But is it possible you're seeing the look of drug addiction in certain cases when it doesn't exist? IMHO, Vanessa could hardly play at the supremely accomplished level she does if she were a drug addict, and an analysis of addiction on the basis of a facial expression on a publicity shot seems to me a bit like "shooting from the hip", unless one is an expert in such analysis.
BTW, I am not seeing the graphics (or videos) included in your post - don't know if it's just me or if it's true for others too.
I just find the looks of Vanessa sleazy and Yuja wholesome. That's all.
Drug addiction amongst young are every where these days. If you haven't seen those faces, consider yourself lucky. Upper middle class kids getting into an adult club working for easy money then eventually hooked on drugs either by a pimp/DJ or club owner is rather common. I know the several of friend's kids or friend's spending a fortune on rehab only to get back right on the addiction.
I know a friend's GF is a heroin addict. She has that blank look which reminded me from the photo you posted.
You don't necessarily have to be in that line of business to encounter drug addicts who would do anything for money.
I guess I just don't see the sleaze! ;-)
BTW, re the post above on Vanessa Mae: yes, I agree that's sleazy. I guess everyone has a slightly different threshold for judging sleaziness! ;-)
