It's been my (limited) experience that the wives are usually the supporters of the arts, and they have to drag their husbands to the concerts. From watching the attendees, I've noticed many of these ladies are unaccompanied or in groups without men.

i have not noticed that. I will have to pay more attention to that. What I tend to notice is that you have your white crowd that is mostly old to very old and your younger crowd that is mostly Asian. I haven't noticed any disparity between men and women. But I can't say that I have been taking note
I live in Tallahassee, FL, home of the Florida State University School of Music, which I'm told is one of the top music schools in the country, and I have noticed the different age groups you mention. Mostly old folks like me (but I've been going to concerts for 50 years, so at one time I was one of the young ones) and a smaller percentage of young folks, in our case mainly music students, many of whom are Asian these days.
I love sitting behind the music students during a concert. Their comments are so entertaining. When Hilary Hahn gave a recital here the students around me went crazy!
She is pretty fantastic live
