The long, distinguished life of a very fine pianist and pedagogue has concluded. Best known these days for his years at Juilliard and Curtis, his career included performing with the top orchestras and some very good recordings of Beethoven and Schubert, as well as conducting under the tutelage of Koussevitzky, Szell and Bernstein. In contrast to our current era of flash and splash on stage, Lipkin was the epitome of elegance and restraint in his performances. R.I.P.

Lipkin certainly had a champion in pianist and WQXR radio show host David Dubal, who taught with him at Juilliard. I'm sure Dubal will acknowledge him on the next program he does, which is called Reflections from the Keyboard and can be heard on wqxr.org.
