You like beer?
Wow, chocolate beer!
I don't think so.
Some combinations just aren't meant to be.

Well, it was never released officially (someone recognized the chocolate/beer affect) but segments of it are floating around on video clips. Performed in Japan in 1986, it won't change your mind on the subject but is a vast improvement on the OP's linked performance. This is mostly due to Rollins' playing, which usually will elevate whatever he's playing to the next level. Apart from that I agree with your analogy.

Must check that one out. For some reason I really like 'Jazz orchestra', the Metropole Orkest as an example. Just sounds fresh to my ears.
Chocolate beer? Well I do prefer a good Porter to an IPA. If you ever pass through Euston Station check out the Euston Taps, probably the smallest tap house you'll ever enter.

I would have linked something on YouTube, but the good performances of this arrangement with this trio were taken down.Seiji Ozawa ruined the Berlin performance which just *dragged* along with horribly sloppy ensemble (I was stupid to recommend this a few years ago without actually listening to it).... There was another performance on YouTube with a "no name" conductor/orchestra, but the orchestra was just awful.
If a good performance were to surface, I will provide a link.
