In the discussion of the book Tales From the Locker Room somebody asked if the book Shoot the Conductor was worth reading . It definetly is. It is about Anshel Brushlow who was a violinist who was concertmaster under Szell and Ormandy. He also had a solo career and a conducting career. His stories of what it was like playing for Szell and then Ormandy is fascinating. I highly recommend this book

Thanks! for sharing- Alan.
Brusilow can be heard to great effect in Ormandy's Scheherezade, though very different from Sidney Harth in Reiner's. And he was a conductor, too, so he should put his gun away!
Don't try this with Artur Rodzinski..... Supposedly took a gun with him to rehearsals.......
