I didn't care as much for the recordings he did as conductor of the St. Louis Symphony.
I preferred his recordings with the St. Louis SO even though they were not as well recorded. They did a great Turangalila et al..
. . . I came across a CD I'd completely forgotten that I had: the Vonk/Hague Residentie Orchestra recording of Bruckner's Sixth on the Dutch Vanguard label. I don't remember anything about it (!), but I'll be re-listening to at least part of it very soon.
As far as his St. Louis recordings are concerned, I didn't hear the Messiaen Turangalila, but the more standard repertoire ones I did hear seemed awfully dry and multi-miked, and I just couldn't get past that.
