Quite a come down, no?
Stuart Canin, then Raymond Kobler - the life of a concertmaster in the SFS is definitely tied to the music director.
Follow Ups:
Can't recall but seem to remember that Blomstedt had a number of Principals he didn't exactly agree with?
As far as I can recall, Kobler was concertmaster under Blomstedt. MTT replaced him, right?
left SF 1998
Kobler left in 98, Barantschick came over in 01 - not sure who was acting concertmaster during that hiatus. de Waart didn't get on with Kobler's predecessor Stuart Canin, who was adored by Ozawa. And of course Canin was brought in by Ozawa to replace Krachmalnick, who was brought in by Krips to replace Frank Houser...who was brought in by Jorda....and so it goes.
He brought her to Minnesota anyway.
own CM.
They serve "At the pleasure" of the Maestro, I don't believe they get Tenure.
We were living outside the Bay Area from '91 to '04 so we missed a lot of the 'drama'. ;-)
