and being a bass player then there was... Jaco. Some of their stuff best loved years ago
has been replaced by other of their stuff, etc. and most of it holds up very well.
When they were on, they hit it like no one's business.
Later, with the many complex technological advances Zawinul made (which never
increased his musicality, just changed his sound), and all the various tremendous
musicians they had, the highlight of any WR show was Joe and Wayne's duet.
Those two could dance circles around Fred and Ginger.

Follow Ups:
I loved Jaco but I still like the bands sound/tunes best during the AJ years from Mysterious Traveler to Black Market. Most people don't know Jaco is only on two tunes on Black Market, the rest is AJ.
I play bass too. Not very good as I don't play often anymore, never was much, I pride myself on playing everything a little not just one instrument. I do love good bass players. Clarke, Bromberg, Kai Eckardt, Nic Fiszman, I'm forgetting some for sure. I like Mike Howlett and enjoy the Shamal riffs.
