Sure they're almost twenty years better but the rawness and the edge seem gone now that is very evident here

MMW are always great!
To the loyal fans I got the distinct sense they could do absolutely no wrong, not even close ... that I noticed, no dispute that!
they were what i considered to be cutting edge then but i saw them at UCLA Royce Hall about 1.5 yr ago and was disappointed. and their recent releases seems to show they have fallen over that edge.

for another direction, try trilok gurtu, a percussionist that has played with joe zawinul a lot of times. one disc to recommend hands down is "Miles Gurtu", a collaboration of trilok and robert miles (of all people).

I know it is personal taste and there is no right or wrong but there are several bands where I like their stuff more often earlier than later but not always.

I saw then in TO ... too much garage band drudgery ... a little melody, if not actually a song, would have gone a long way...
Actually they did do a number from the release (they are supposed to be touring ???) that was nice but it was early on and almost forgotten through the oncoming dense fog
