Remembering marching band at El Camino Real HS in Woodland Hills CA, I always thought Southern California had some of the very best music schooling in the country at the high school level..... Apparently still that way today. Too bad they have to go East to Juilliard or Curtis to further develop those high standards.....
The phrasing and articulation by the orchestra happens be exemplary, on an absolute scale. Especially in the Tchaik Five finale. I was particularly impressed with the trombones and flute. The string intonation, while it won't be mistaken for a major orchestra, was also exemplary.
If I were in S. Calif and knew about this concert, I might have attended it.

Thanks for the comments, I also particularly liked this Tchaik 5 part.
My violinist said, "I already know the piece" because they played it several other times in various groups.
Did you live here, forgot but I believe you're in AZ now.
I can't go to THE SHOW etc. Conflicts with the 5.31 concert and prep for same.
I've lived a third of my life in S. Calif.... But live in AZ.....
Can't attend THE Show this year either.... My financial situation has forced me to pass.
Are you draggin' that amazing portable system around?
"Are you draggin' that amazing portable system around?"
I have sort of a third system in the living room, coexisting with the main system.... I'll be playing it more during the summer, so the space heaters I'm using (Bogen MO100 monos) for the main system get some rest. I'm also running a Don Allen solid state amp, swapped out for the mini tube amp, which might be an equal to the mighty Symfonia amp I once had, but doesn't have quite the power. (The Class AB amp also runs very cool.)
(I don't mention Don Allen much anymore, because he's no longer in the amp building/modification business. The best place to snag a used piece is Audiogon, but the prices have gone up.)
The Marantz CC45 (non SE) CD changer is sweet with the solid state mod, a perfect travel player since it also has no tubes. The Promitheus Audio TVC passive stage used as a controller tops off a nice non-tube system, travel or not. (I've been tempted to upgrade the passive to a higher model in the Promitheus line, but the "Standard" TVC works perfectly fine.) And of course the Silverline Audio Minuet Supreme Plus minimonitors.
