I'm a fetishist about the original LP cover art too. In fact, that's one reason I'm re-buying (yet again) some of the Reiner/Chicago recordings, reissued for the second time on SACD (this time by Analogue Productions / Acoustic Sounds): these latest reissues (which are much more expensive and contain far less music per disc than the previous SACD's done by Soundmirror for Sony-BMG) reproduce those LP covers without the visual clutter of the earlier SACD reissues. Like you, I'm just a sucker for it - must have something to do with early childhood memories! ;-)
No question which of these two is more faithful!

I fully agree with you. Those covers are a genre of art in and of themselves. Love them.
Great orchestra and conductor match. Check out this live version of the Nielsen. First concert post/renovation. It is evident that they toned down slightly for the RCA recording!
I've only been able to listen to the Nielsen 4th so far, and it sounded a bit cramped/congested to me. I didn't have the previous CD for comparison, unfortunately. Still, it wasn't too bad once I got used to it. The performance still blazes like no other., and I'm SO thrilled to have the original cover art again!!! (That's my own scan of the CD sleeve above--they did an excellent job with the reproductions!)
