But the Deodato version features some superb drumming by Billy Cobham.

In whatever group he was in in the mid-1970s post-Mahavishnu.
I was awe-struck by how he physically dominated such a huge (and transparently-bodied) drum kit, as I was by his rolling from one tom or floor tom to another to another with this look of rapture on his face... Amazing is the only word.

Steve Gadd for making a drum set a musical instrument.
Keith Moon for physical involvement and mayhem.
I was lucky enough to see BC a few times with the original Mahavishnu Orchestra. They were boggling musicians, individually and as a unit, with Billy an apparent embodiment of "shakti".
I believe that the sidemen on that YT clip include Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker and John Abercrombie. It was a pretty decent band.

I saw them at Gaston Hall on the campus of Georgetown University in April 1974. It was a fantastic performance, and you're right: Cobham had a mesmerizing stage presence. He plays with an "open handed" style that's really fun to watch.
But for sheer physical command of a drumset, IMHO nobody, and I mean nobody, could touch Buddy Rich.

I'm a Tony Williams man.
The only Drummer I would have gone to see play
a Drum Single ( by himself ).
I'd like to see who was giving him lessons.
He belonged to a class of one.
. . . used so superbly in "Being There" - on my list as one of the top 10 movies of all time.
