Follow Ups:
I have never heard a piano version of TROS that really got me excited. That piece deserves a full orchestra. Too many tonal colors lost with just piano, but this is just my opinion, of course.
Boulez with Cleveland on DG.
what I look for in Le Sacre is timing precision and dynamic expressions.
Tonal values are lucky strike extra for me. Maybe this is why I like Stravinsky conducting his own.
If a performance has it without losing the first two of my criteria, I am all for it tho.
. . . the piano versions can be fascinating in their own right. The Three Scenes from Petrouchka vie with Gaspard de la nuit (and a couple of other pieces I suppose) for being the most technically difficult piano solo in the standard repertoire. For that aspect alone, it's very interesting to me to hear how different pianists succeed or fail at the challenge. (And IMHO, most fail!) And you can't deny that you're hearing some details in the piano versions that you don't hear in the orchestral versions. Overall, I think the piano versions are certainly interesting for a change of pace - of course, I'm a pianist, so I'm biased. ;-)

My daughter told me that every ballet has a piano version for the practices, some are quite remarkable :).
For the full experience you do need the full orchestra, i agree. Some ballets make very interesting piano pieces.

the Rite of Spring recording with Alice Sara Ott and Francesco Tristano is bang up exciting. I love this CD, but I put it in a plain brown wrapper when I take it outside my house :)
That promo video for it was just embarrassing. ;-)

Thanks for the recommendation. Will check it first online.

Petrouchka: Pollini (an old stand-by recommendation, but I agree with it!) and Yuja - both on DG
Rite of Spring: See my post above about Yeol Eum Son (just by chance)! Here she is with Da Sol Kim - YouTube only, unfortunately, with shallow, dry sound - microphones inside the pianos - but I'm really sold on this girl:
that is interesting...That was one of the ones i liked :) Pollini i never heard, but will seek out.but how about this one :)
just for laughs....
