I recently re-watched this again. If I am not mistaken, she received more time on the show (5 songs?) than any other artist - more than the Stones, the Beach Boys, James Brown, Chuck Berry, you name it... - I don't believe she had that long of a career though, but she was a HUGE star in her time.
Follow Ups:
She was indeed HUGE in her prime years (1963-65), with such hits as: "Maybe I Know" , "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows", "That's the Way Boys Are", "Judy's Turn To Cry", "She's a Fool", "You Don't Own Me", and the one that really put her on the map..."It's My Party".
Quincy Jones produced (double tracked her vocals) and arranged, and the records just hit the mark spot on.
She continued to play So Cal jazz clubs clear up to recent times...The Baked Potato, Catalina Bar and Grill, The Jazz Bakery, etc.
And the Beach Boys appearance in the T.A.M.I. show was actually deleted in the original video release of the show, as requested by Brian Wilson. But gotta love my boys, Jan and Dean, hosting it!
Any idea why Brian wanted them to delete it - they are actually really good on the show. The only thing that didn't ring true was when Jan and Dean introduced them as the "real surfers".
Rooted in his domineering father and his demand for perfection.
I saw the Beach Boys in Houston during the late 70's right after he rejoined the band. He stared at the big screen the first half of the show and then they took a break and when they came back the screen was turned off. This was also after his recorded drug problems.
the beach boys deletion from the initial releases of the filmed version were due to a combination of brian's dissatisfaction in their performance, and conflicts with contractual/rights issues.
