NRP featured a segment about the Music & Arts reissues of the complete Schneider Qrt recordings of Haydn. It was a more in-depth look than is usual. Even a few more extended samples were played. I don't even like Haydn that much, but I was drawn in. The reviewer, Lloyd Schwartz, said that the Schneider performances were ideal. All of the others missed subtlies, were either too aggressive or too wimpy, and missed the big picture feeling.
Does anyone have any thoughts on that? Any favorites?

Thanks!
Love Haydn.
I'll stick with the Buchberger on Brilliant Classics.

I've had the Schneider set for a few months. Actually, M&A had doubts about the commercial viability of the project, and asked for contributions "up front" before they began working on it - so for $100, I (among others, I assume) got a copy a couple of months before the official release.
It is a wonderful set - the sound, although monaural, is excellent, without excessive surface noise from the source LP's. The performances are fluent and "central", without affectation or gimmicks. I only wish that they had completed the project - some of the quartets went unrecorded.
That's a LOT of Haydn string quartets.
I love my complete Hayden string quartet set.
And my solo Hayden keyboard set - another 13 discs.
Love me some Hayden.
