I have a question do the bass drum whacks on all versions momentarily
"overload" the microphones like they do on some Mecury Living Presence
recordings. This sounds like a few of the MLPs do as far as "up front" stage
presentation is concerned . I really wish this listening perspective hadn't
been all but abandoned in modern day Orchestral recording as I think it
gives a greater sense of involvement in smaller scaled music .(I wonder if slight momentary overloads received too many complaints ?)
You don't know what you've got til it's gone "yet again"
(upon more extended listening this recording appears to have a bit more upper frequency extensional, & so less "dated" sounding than the Mercs do)
(I wonder if "Wilkie" worked on this one. Was this done in "Kingsway" ?)

PCO/Decca bass drum sound is hit and miss in my experience.
It's most disappointing in Martinon's Prokofiev 5th, which is a shame because IMHO it's the best "Jazzy" version I know next to Rattle's. (Hard to believe Prokofiev never meant the symphony to be dressed as darkly as we usually hear it.)
Anyway, the bass drum in the Martinon is almost non-existent, though I still wouldn't want to be without this wonderfully fresh and fizzy performance.
On the slam-dunk end, is the Prokofiev Piano Concerto #2. Room-shaking, exceptionally transparent bass drum. Performance is a knockout too. It can be found on Alto and Classic Records.
I think that the hit or miss with Decca's has more to do with how early a version of the recording you've gotten. The earlier editions (the "Blue Backs & the early edition SXLs) were consistently spacious sounding w/good bass extension .The later SXLs (similar to what happen to the later EMI pressings) really surrendered much of the recorded SQ.
They must have taken greater care when they remastered the material for"The Decca Sound" box set (which Id ripped to HDD & listen to through a Metrum Hex DAC) that absolutely reminds me of listening to the "Bluebacks",but I keep wondering where the "groove noise" is.
Speaking of great recording I'll never forget the absolutely mint condition
1st edition "Argento / LSO /Espana" I found hidden under a table at "flea
market" that I talked a lady at the table "down" from $5 to 75 cents
I think she was packing up to go home & it sat there all day !
Do flea markets still exist (I don't collect anymore any way)
