No, it's not an experimental Bell labs recording. MTT ( and another version with the Denver pops) take Gershwin's piano rolls and suddenly it's Music Minus 60 time,: they accompany him in modern sound. My second LP was Lenny with the NYPO; this makes it sound turgid. A lot of fun, and it's on TIDAL
Follow Ups:
To do the recording with the piano roll, they had to doctor it. Gershwin's original role was of him playing his arrangement of the piano and orchestral parts. They covered up the holes representing the orchestral parts leaving only the solo piano part which they accompanied with the orchestra(s).
Yup -- I have it too and enjoy it very much! Almost as much as the original with the Paul Whiteman band.

Listening to the original now on spotify, and within the limits of Spotify, sound is not bad. Tried TIDAL, but don't have the bandwidth for flac, have to change browser etc
