I like the Scandinavian composers, I've neglected him long enough.
Any suggestions welcome.

Follow Ups:
I collected a lot of Stenhammar on LP. I don't know if you play LPs or if any of the following have been transferred to CD. The best of the lot:
Serenade on Deutsche Grammophon with the Stockholm Philharmonic conducted by Rafael Kubelik
String Quartet No. 4 on Deutsche Grammophon played by the Vlach Quartet
Symphony Op.34 on a German Living Stereo RCA with the Stockholm Philharmonic conducted by Tor Mann
Intermezzo from "The Song" Symphonic Cantata and Suite from incidental music from R. Tagore's play "Chitra" on Swedish EMI with the Stockholm Philharmonic conducted by Herbert Blomstedt
Piano Concerto No. 2 on Swedish EMI with Janos Solyom, piano, and the Munich Philharmonic conducted by Stig Westerberg
The Janos Solyom record is outstanding with excellent sound. He also recorded the the piano pieces 3 Fantasies, Late Summer Nights, and the Sonata for violin and piano on CBS and Swedish EMI. Again outstanding performances and excellent sound.
I have one of the early BIS Stenhammar LPs. I never duplicated any of the performances on BIS CDs. I was too satisfied with the recordings listed above. All are imported LPs which had limited circulation in the US, but I liked the music enough to search them out over the years.
Anything on the BIS label can't be bad, especially for a Nordic composer.
. . . BIS titles never go OOP.
I have "Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2 - Serenade OP 34 - Excelsior! OP 13", DG double disc set, Neeme Jarvi, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. The music is wonderful.
The sound and the performances seem very good on these discs but I have no other Stenhammar recordings to compare these ones to.
I'm a big fan of Neeme Jarvi and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, just ordered the DG from Amazon.

I am a major Stenhammar fan. You can't go wrong with the recordings on the BIS label. There is a 4 CD boxed set that contains the major symphonic works in very good performances and sound. I also note that most of the 4-CD set has been reissued on the Brilliant label as a 3-CD set for the price of one CD (a great bargain). The Brilliant set doesn't include the Serenade and several other, small pieces that are on the BIS set.
Of more recent vintage on BIS SACD's are the string quartets - these are excellent works in terrific performances (the best around, IMO, and I've heard/have the alternatives on disc) and in great sound. Quartets 3-6 (plus an unpublished quartet that came between Nos. 3 and 4) are already released and Nos. 1 & 2 are about to be released. Great music!
