but then again I don't think he's gotten where he is now if he hadn't married Du Pre.

I had season tickets to the Chicago Symphony for all the year Barenboim was conductor. I loved him and so did the Chicago audiences. I recently saw a video of him performing Listz at an outdoor setting. Simply brilliant playing. His master classes on Beethoven show what a fantastic musical mind this man has. Truly a musical genius. \
DuPre had nothing to do with the great musical career he has had and continues to have. By the way the only reason he was forced out of Chicago was that the board wanted him to spend more time in Chicago promoting the orchestra. He said no.

I knew I was going to piss off someone! :DActually I respect him as a teacher than as a performer.
P.S. I am one of those who was relieved when he left Chicago.

"The low notes are the keys on the left?"
I certainly haven't gotten along with his way of interpreting the music so far.
I used to fall asleep on subscription concerts. Even the recent program his style won't let me connect with the music. It really is a strange thing.
But I think he's a great teacher and a humanitarian from what I have read.
Jacqueline Du Pre played nicer piano..... There's a video somewhere of the two of them and she's playing the piano. All the emotion and touch that strangely isn't there with a lot of his playing. She just had music in her bones.
