Because he is so universally loved and appreciated here!
Follow Ups:
I LOVE the way he plays the Mozart Piano Concertos on the 1980's EMI recordings....but his Beethoven Sonatas were too slow at many times for me.
He's GREAT at Wagner, and he is very confident about his like of Wagner (as well as his love for cigars).

There's a wonderful DG recording of Argerich and Barenboim playing a Mozart 2-piano sonata and Stravinsky's two-piano version of Rite of Spring. It's only been released in the US a month ago:

Yeah, I saw that pop up when I searched QOBUZ for Barenboim.
I'll give it a listen today.
You can watch Barenboim and Argerich play the Stravinsky complete, here:

I'll bet he plays some of the repertoire on that recording better than he does now! ;-)
What do ya think?
but then again I don't think he's gotten where he is now if he hadn't married Du Pre.
Nonsence
I had season tickets to the Chicago Symphony for all the year Barenboim was conductor. I loved him and so did the Chicago audiences. I recently saw a video of him performing Listz at an outdoor setting. Simply brilliant playing. His master classes on Beethoven show what a fantastic musical mind this man has. Truly a musical genius. \
DuPre had nothing to do with the great musical career he has had and continues to have. By the way the only reason he was forced out of Chicago was that the board wanted him to spend more time in Chicago promoting the orchestra. He said no.

I knew I was going to piss off someone! :DActually I respect him as a teacher than as a performer.
P.S. I am one of those who was relieved when he left Chicago.

"The low notes are the keys on the left?"
I certainly haven't gotten along with his way of interpreting the music so far.
I used to fall asleep on subscription concerts. Even the recent program his style won't let me connect with the music. It really is a strange thing.
But I think he's a great teacher and a humanitarian from what I have read.
Jacqueline Du Pre played nicer piano..... There's a video somewhere of the two of them and she's playing the piano. All the emotion and touch that strangely isn't there with a lot of his playing. She just had music in her bones.
