Back when dinosaurs ruled the earth, I was the founding Classical Music Columnist for DIGITAL AUDIO magazine (and, to quote Bob Seger, I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then).
I gave a huge rave to the original CD release of Haitink's Trois Nocturnes, and my editor skeptically asked whether it was that much of a standout, and I replied, "Yup." I figured he had a favorite.
That illusion was shattered when the magazine came out (or I saw a set of bluelines, I forget which, it was a long time ago), and the head of the review stated:
DEBUSSY: Trios; Nocturnes
Thanks for that, guy! Actually, that editor was a nice person, and the more knowledgeable person who replaced him was an embittered, self-absorbed drip.
That's all in the past, but I still have the CD, and it was one I bought at retail rather than a review copy.

"Jeux". Like you, I very much enjoyed it when it was released (had it on LP first).
