. . . barely recovered her career from her "nude" 1996 cover of the Bach Partitas.
Another completely trivial and empty bit or para-journalism devoid of any depth.
Resignation speeches from politicians in this media saturated age go along the lines of "I apologise for giving the impression of wrongdoing".
It's the "impression"of everything these days. Pop psychology gives "the impression of science". A bit like the L'Oréal approach. And the message is the same - "Because you're worth it".
Classical music gives the "impression" of classical music - because you're worth it.
Do we really need to read stuff like:
"I met inventer Albert Einstein in his Princeton rooms over a cup of delightfully prepared coffee. As the sun streamed in through the windows on to his homely tweed suit set off by a jaunty blue striped tie I asked him how he felt about cats. Did he have a favourite moggie in his life......"
Ohh yessss!
They weren't really saying how they felt about it at all.
Simply taking a long time to tell us that they had to just wear it! While wriggling gently for us!

Hullo there, Andy?! ;-)

However, I have to say that my (and my wife's) estimation of Nicola went down a couple of notches when she said that, in a fire, she'd save her Strad rather than her cat! (The cat would just have to look after itself.) Priorities, Ms. Benedetti!

are a virtually unlimited number of them and a very limited number of Strads.

pussy.
I was going to say something about relative playing skills, but I thought I was rude enough for one post.
If she did, she'd probably feel different.

NOT!
a strad is a lot harder to come by, just saying.

True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.
quote by Kurt Vonnegut
You make a good point - but since even trained violinists can't always tell a Strad from a modern instrument, I think I'd still go for the cat! ;-)
Whereas a Strad in original condition would look very different to a violinist, and would feel quite different to play, no? Let alone that the original bow would be another give away.
IIRC the tests (there were two?) asked the musicians to state which one they'd prefer to play. So it would be feel and sound alone to each player. And, I don't think they were told one was a Strad, or to pick out the old one, wouldn't be a proper test then, would it?
Give them a Jacobus Stainer from the Smithsonian, maybe?

. . . I might go carbon fiber myself:

But as a keyboarder, I just have to content myself with the Godowsky transcriptions!
(BTW, I think you're right - something was funny with the way they asked the questions on the Strad test(s).)
is how few people know how to THINK properly, and are unwilling to get to the nub of things.
And, conversely for the majority that's probably what irritates people about me!
Viz. You an I recognise a 'liberal' slant in each other? Well, at the end of that course up on Manly Head (North Head) in Sydney for volunteer emergency leaders? I was given a mock scroll by all the others.
Somehow it got lost or 'I've put it somewhere safe.' ;-) ? so this is a paraphrase.
