Anyone who tries through revisionist history to rehabilitate Joe McCarthy or who claims that Obama (regardless of what we may think of him or his policies) has the country on the road towards a North Korean type of totalitarian regime just doesn't have the basic credibility for me to devote further time to him/her. I've made my decision - other folks can decide for themselves.
pornographer. I don't care to read Lolita or Pale Fire (or any other of his paeans to his deviancy).
Similarly, those who defend him I find somewhat contemptible. Lewis Carroll was a child pornographer, too, though of a different sort: he took extremely suggestive pictures of young girls. Some defend him by saying, and I know this sounds ridiculous, that standards in Victorian England were different.

As far as the "shock" value of the book is concerned, it now reminds of the "Scroty McBoogerballs" episode of "South Park": folks trying to read in meanings or else maintain a type of "play the role" sophistication about the taboo subject matter in order to one-up the outraged bourgeois classes. Just not interested in that.
As for the hypothetical "babe" question, my answer is: not a chance.
boring as his fiction is amoral.
Your loss. This is not a place to discuss politics, so I will merely note that I expect your views were formed around discussion of her later work, American Betrayal, not Death of the Grown-Up, which is more about culture than politics. If I had thought it essentially a political work I would not have brought it up here.
You can read the opening paragraphs of Death of the Grown-Up on amazon.com. I'd encourage you to do that, because I think you might find it interesting. Be sure to hyphenate grown-up in your search.
