.
Or so I am told.
I have heard TGOTGW only on a cheap radio playing the Met's Saturday broadcast, many years ago.

the harmonies as well, for the chorus of "Music of the Night."
I couldn't believe my ears.
Neither could the Puccini estate. IIRC, there was a lawsuit and settled out of court.
BTW, the "Girl" is my favorite Puccini opera.

One might be tempted to say, the exception that proves the rule.
Which just goes to show, when most people think of opera, they think of Renaissance or Early Classical (i.e., Mozart) or perhaps Wagner, but never something that is still in copyright!!!
My Puccini fave is "La Rondine."

"most people"???
That will come as a shock to most MET subscribers regarding Verdi and Puccini.
I've always loved Moffo's voice. Such a warm, rich sound, like a mini Leontyne.

If there is, it is a later-copyrighted critical edition or performing edition, and not from his hand.
Now, of course, most people would expect that John Adams' "Nixon in China" (1987) is in rights.

Didn't say or mean that. I think we're misunderestimating ourselves.
I'll make it clearer. Verdi and Puccini are what most people believe is opera whether it's copyrighted or not.

YMMV!

Hope to make it there.
