What you think of the term is not relevant, as has been said it is what women think of the term. There are any number of demeaning terms used by some persons who are not offended by the term nor are their peers. Only the injured party is offended.Using such a term where one is offended could well lead to bodily harm in some face-to-face encounters. So, a little sensitivity for others would be appreciated by me and any number of others here at the Asylum. It is not a matter of political correctness as much as that of common courtesy to your fellow human beings.
I take a leap of faith that you are a part of the later genus.
I have had the good fortune of spending considerable time in Romania, and for them to loose such a talent is a loss to country and to us - the human beings.

should a classical artist/babe ever kick my ass because I call her a babe or something similar I will concede the point.
Dave, I don't know what part of the world you're from, but for me, that just doesn't even pass the giggle test. Would you care to explain exactly how that works?
I am not making specific reference to the term babe, but any number of other insults. Many of these that lean to ethnic, racial, and nationality in many quarters of the good ole USA will yield a good old fashioned a-whipping, if not worse. There are some sexual slurs that will get you slapped at a minimum universally in the English speaking countries.
So, you can hide behind your computer and intellectually argue your point, but this asylum is just a small portion of the real world.
Lions, tigers, and bears - oh my! And there are sculpted 250 pound 6 foot plus persons that will take you to task.

What is the the reservation in calling an attractive female performer - woman? Why must a diminutive term be used?

"I am not making specific reference to the term babe"
Excellent - I'm very happy about that. So you just wanted to get in a couple of innuendos instead ("other insults. . . that lean to ethnic, racial, and nationality")?
But you couldn't stop there with the innuendos ("some sexual slurs that will get you slapped"). So are you claiming that "babe" is a sexual slur or not? Be careful when answering - "babe" is a term that some women use for guys too. And as far as I can tell, it's a term of admiration. And whether they use it, or I (and others on this forum) use it, there's nothing diminutive about it, except in minds of petty enforcers of their own narrow brand of propriety.
Today as i was walking down the street this drop dead gorgeous woman called me, yes me, a babe! So I punched her in the nose.

My apologies to all regarding all the white space. I had a 15-pound "Babe" handed to me as I was finishing up the post. I guess I proved the last phrase of my post. Getting all that white space in my post, now, that took breeding.
Yes Nadira, the 15-pound babe, wouldn't take umbrage to the term at nine months of age.
