Blomstedt's Gewandhaus recording of Bruckner's 6th has really grown on me, despite the inclusion of the applause at the end ( it makes me feel as though the product is unfinished). I ordered his recording of the 3rd as well, another lesser-known (to me) of Bruckner's symphonies. I will probably get to his 8th after that, rumored to be a superb performance (and my own favorite Bruckner symphony). I hope that Blomstedt lives to complete the series. I saw him perform Bruckner's 5th a few months back, and he was amazing. It would also be wonderful to have him make a few non-Bruckner recordings - he gave a performance of the Sibelius 2nd two seasons ago that was luminous, and he still has an awesome rapport with the San Franciso Symphony. Truly an underrated conductor.

According to abruckner.com, Querstand is going to release a set of symphonies 1-9 this year.

I wonder if Blomstedt is re-recording No. 9 for Querstand, or if they will just contract with Decca to use his Decca performance (which didn't seem to stay in the catalogue for very long). Also, it looks as if he's recording only the numbered symphonies (no "Nullte" or "Schulsymphonie"). Thanks again!
Hi Chris,
The recording of Bruckner's 9th will be of the Benjamin Gunnar Cohrs 2000 edition. According to abruckner.com, all previous Blomstedt Bruckner 9ths have been of the Nowak 1951 edition. Therefore, the recording of the Cohrs edition appears to be new.
I have been holding off on buying additional releases in this cycle in the hope that Querstand releases it in a box set.

In one of the discussions down below, we were just discussing coincident microphoned recordings and how there really haven't been any pure examples recently (aside from the Water Lily recordings), and what do I find?
Excellent - I'll be looking out for this one. Thanks again!
I think his recording of the 6th with the SFSO on Decca is pretty good.
Glad you're enjoying the series - I think I mentioned that the Fourth is already out (although I don't have it yet, and it's not available at the Amazon site until August 14 for some reason). I saw an announcement of the First too - said to be coming out in a couple of months in Europe. That leaves only 2, 0, and 00 to go! ;-)
