Hi, all.
The usual disclosure and disclaimer apply.
Arkivmusic is currently sale-pricing the 12 CDs I picked as the best "undiscovered treasures" from my column's "Fantasy Symphony Season" reader write-in competition.
Something for everyone, I think.
Ciao,
John

You made me buy five of your listed selections. :-)
John, first thanks for a most interesting article....actually, the interesting part for me is the unusual works you profiled. I found the work to be of most immediate interest to be the Rott symphony - I have heard of Rott, but have not heard his music. The SFS was supposed to do a movement from this work in a Mahler evening for the Keeping Score series but ended up substituting another Mahler movement, which was too bad.
My question to you - there are five recordings of this piece listed on Arkiv Music - how did you pick the Segerstam recording?
Thanks,
Tom
Sorry, I don't really recall how I ended up with that one... . It could have been recommended in the article about Rott that ran in LISTEN magazine (which is basically Arkivmusic.com's house magazine, and another Steinway property). Or it could have been that I usually like Bis' recorded sound.
It now appears that my column has driven that CD into backorder status... .
And yes, the whole thing is or was on YouTube, as another poster mentioned.
I must again express my thanks and admiration to the people who entered the competition, bringing to my attention dozens, not just a dozen, great unfamiliar works.

"Rott and Roll!," or
"This is noble Rott!"
Thanks, John,m for a very interesting article. BTW, the Rott symphony can be heard on youtube in the Segerstam recording--a good way to preview before buying:
