I had posted a comment about Dejan Lazic playing on the Beethoven Sonatas & Var. for piano & cello disc set that he did w/ Pieter Wispelway, based on their playing of the first sonata. I was somewhat hasty in my judgement of the artistic effort put foward. In comparison to the Schiff/Perenyni rendering of the same sonata, the tempi taken is quite different. I think the Wispelway/Lazic version sounds a bit "Mozartian" to me or maybe a "Beethoven light version" in this particular sonata compared to the Schiff/Perenyi playing. The rest of the disc is starting to sound more like Beethoven, but(there is always a but somewhere, when I post)on the Wispelway/Lazic set it appears each player is being very slighty too aware of the others playing to be as expressive at certain moments as is conveyed on the Schiff/Perenyi set. Thanks for disagreeing w/ me,Chris from Laffayette. I hate to sound like "I'm shooting from the hip",so I went back to listen again.
Even if you had stuck to your guns, that would still be OK with me. ("Suum cuique!"). :-)
Where I get confused though is when someone hears the exact same recording I've heard, and then describes the more factual elements of the performance 180 degrees opposite from the way I hear it. For instance, it would be as if someone claimed Martha Argerich's recording of the Rachmaninoff Third was slow and plodding! It's happened before (not with that recording, but with others).
Really? 180 degrees ,huh ? So you don't find the playing just slighly cool? I guess it's just me! I guess thats why Baskin Robbins makes all those different flavors!(& it goes without saying no one's taste is as sophisticated as our own) I do absolutely like the recording quality though! He He He! ( Now , if you want talk about a Rach 3rd that will get me started just mention the Helfgott recording . Was that issued by major label,I forget! or at least want to forget!)

. . . was 180 degrees out of sync with mine. I was just saying that that sometimes happens when I read other posts. Sorry if I wasn't clear. :-)
Yes - that was sad about Helfgott. The poor guy was totally exploited.
